Colonics for colonoscopy preparation

Colonics are used as an alternative method for colonoscopy preparation by gently removing waste without using harsh chemicals. The pre-cleansing medical routine used to prepare for a colonoscopy can be intimidating. Receiving a gentle colonic and juice cleanse support from our team of colonics experts before a colonoscopy may remove the stress of preparing for this important screening procedure.

Remove Toxins and Improve Gut Health with Colonics in Shoreview, MN

Colonics (also known as colon hydrotherapy) are a safe, effective method to cleanse the colon of toxins such as old fecal matter, mucoid plaque, gas and harmful pathogens. In combination with a healthy lifestyle, colonics can improve your health, immune system, and general well-being.

Poor digestion, due to chronic stress and a build-up of these toxins, happens when pollutants circulate in the bloodstream, which overburdens the lymphatic system, causes "plaque" build up along the colon walls, and drastically reduces nutrient absorption. Your body is exposed to toxins throughout your life through air, food, prescription drugs, alcohol, and more.

Build a Healthy Gut Microbiome with Colon Therapy in Shoreview, MN

While your body is exposed to toxins through food, air, prescription drugs, alcohol, and more, chronic stress and anxiety also impact your digestion due to the gut-brain connection. Your vagus nerve, which is essentially your parasympathetic nervous system, communicates to your gut through bacteria. When under excessive or prolonged stress, it hinders your vagus nerve's ability to communicate to your gut microbiome. When the vagus nerve works optimally, it helps prevent inflammation and decreases intestinal permeability.

Over time, a combination of chronic stress and a build-up of toxins can cause constipation. In our society, many people chose laxatives and stool softeners for a quick fix. However, used in excess, these can irritate the digestive system, cause diarrhea, stomach cramps, and prevent your body from absorbing nutrients. Long term, they can affect the way your bowels work, making them lazy and leading to a reliance on them to have a bowel movement.

At Healing Within Wellness Center in Shoreview, MN, we suggest a holistic approach to creating a long-term digestive health plan. Our colon hydrotherapy services in Shoreview, MN, include two types of colonic systems: open and closed systems (see below).

First time getting a colonic? Start Here

Step 1 - Read through the Colon Health Resources and find out if you have any contraindications. If you have questions, please contact us.

Step 2 - Download, print off and sign the two client colonic forms. Bring them to your first appointment. Note: We take HSA (Health Savings Account), so check with your HSA coverage provider to find out if you are covered!

Step 3 - Schedule an appointment. We have a number of colon hydrotherpists that are all very well prepared to support you.

Step 4 - Prepare. Eat lightly the night before a colonic and the day of your service. Do not eat or drink liquids an hour before your colonic and empty your bladder before your service.

Best place in the Twin Cities to get a colonic! Also the best chiropractor (she has an MLS Laser for massive healing!). I’ve been in the wellness industry for 20+ years and Healing Within is my go-to resource in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area for these services. And they offer many more wellness services. Ask them!

Closed System - Gravity & Pressure Method

Healing Within Wellness Center in Shoreview, MN uses an FDA-approved gravity-system Toxygen Model BSC-UV colonic instrument manufactured by Dotolo Research Inc.

This professional closed system creates an entirely sterile and odorless experience. A temperature and pressure gauge helps keep you as comfortable as possible while filtered water is fed into your colon using gravity. The closed gravity system utilizes water that is purified using particle and carbon filters and an ultraviolet lamp. As the water enters your colon, it's simultaneously released through another tube, allowing for a gentle release. The therapist can then monitor the pressurized system process to keep you feeling comfortable. Here is the process:

  • Once you're on the table, a lubricated speculum about 1 inch in diameter is inserted by the client and/or colon hydrotherapist about 3 1/2 inches into the anal canal on the exhale or during a series of exhales. There is an electric lift table to accommodate those in wheelchairs and others who have difficulty getting up and down from the table.

  • Water enters the colon through the new sanitized tubing at a gentle pressure, with possible short fills.

  • The session consists of fills and evacuation cycles. The number of cycles during a session can be a few or up to several. With each cycle, a small quantity of water enters the colon through the tube and speculum until peristalsis starts to evacuate the colon's contents. The colon waste is then released through the speculum into the tube, where it is washed into the plumbing drainage. Water pressure and a backflow prevention valve keep waste from entering the water tube.

  • The flow rate is adjusted by the therapist using the control valve. If each fill cycle were added together during the approximately 45-minute session, the accumulated total of water, which passes through the colon, would be two to six quarts of water.

Open System

An open colonic system refers to how waste and water are eliminated from the body. The client self-inserts a sterile, disposable, pinkie-sized rectal nozzle 1 to 1 1/5" into the anal opening just past the sphincter muscle. Laying comfortably on the back and covered up the entire time, the client turns the water on and can adjust the water flow rate. When the sensation to eliminate occurs, the client initiates the release by bearing down just like they would on the toilet. The waste and water are eliminated out around the nozzle, not into it, and the sphincter muscle allows for the elimination. The process continues until the client feels evacuated and is running clear. This process takes approximately 30 to 50 minutes.
